Borderlands 3 is one of the best looter-shooters available today, especially with the upgraded PS5 version reaching 120fps. We will take a look at all the legendary weapons and items you can get on the planet called Athenas. We will see more about the farming location for every piece of equipement.
Named Enemies On Athenas
Captain Traunt
Captain Traunt is located at the end of the map and is a story boss that needs to be killed in order to progress. After finishing the main mission “The Impending Storm” you can travel back to Athenas and farm him for his loot mentioned below. In addition to specific drops, he can also be a great source for World Drops (gear that can drop from any source).
Private Beans
Private Beans is a mini-boss located at the cemetery on Athenas. He is a variation of NOG enemies. To be able to farm him you must finish a side quest given by Ava called “Invasion of Privacy”. You can find Ava on the ship Sanctuary, after finishing the main quest line on the map. You will need to finish the mission “The Impending Storm”.
Chupacabratch
Chupacabratch is a giant, oversized ratch. It is one of many Legendary Hunts in the game. It is an optional activity. He is located on the center of the map, south of Holy Distillery. The creature’s name and ability to life steal comes from the urban legend about the Chupacabra (Spanish for “The Goat Sucker”.
Weapons [smgs, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle]
Kaoson
Kaoson is a powerful SMG developed by a DAHL manufacturer. It shoots bullets that stick on impact and do additional splash damage upon detonation. The weapon’s damage includes bullet damage and explosion damage. The variant of this weapon can come in x2 damage type, it will consume twice the amount of ammo in that scenario. This SMG can also come in 2 firing types: auto and four-round burst fire. It can also come in any of the elements: Fire, Shock, Corrosive, Radiation, Cryo, or Kinetic.
Important! This weapon can only drop on Mayhem Level 6 or above. You will need to finish the story to unlock Mayhem Levels.
Drops from: Captain Traunt
Tankman’s Shield
Tankman’s Shield, even though the name suggests otherwise, is a Sniper Rifle manufactured by Hyperion. Its special ability is that every kill adds weapon damage to the next magazine. It can not do splash damage without specific anointments. It can also come in any of the elements: Fire, Shock, Corrosive, Radiation, Cryo, or Kinetic.
Important! This weapon can only drop on Mayhem Level 4 or above. You will need to finish the story to unlock Mayhem Levels.
Drops from: Captain Traunt
Trevonator
Trevonator is a Maliwan shotgun that shoots three-round shots. It has a very low charge time and was for the longest time very underwhelming. However, in late 2020 it got a huge buff that made this weapon top tier. It also deals splash damage. It can also come in any of the elements, but not in a non-elemental form: Fire, Shock, Corrosive, Radiation, Cryo.
Drops from: Private Beans
The weapon’s name is a reference to Trevor Eastman, a fan of the Borderlands series that was diagnosed with cancer. He had a chance to play a preview build of the game in 2018 but sadly passed away on October 2nd, 2019.
Westergun
Westergun similarly to Trevonator is a Maliwan weapon. It is a pretty decent SMG that shoots a lot of elemental splash orbs that can melt enemies. I can come in two damage variants. One is simply x1, and the second is x2 which adds additional projectile but increases the ammo consumption to 2 ammo per shot. It can also come in any of the elements, but not in a non-elemental form: Fire, Shock, Corrosive, Radiation, Cryo.
Drops from: Private Beans
Gear [Grenade Mods, Shield]
Front Loader
Front Loader is a shield manufactured by Hyperion. It is a core element of many builds that depend on the anointment that gives you 150% bonus radiation damage if your health drops below 50%. The special ability of this shield is that it decreases your hp by 60% so you can not have more than 40% max health but increases the capacity of the shield by the same amount.
Drops from: Chupacabratch
Chupa’s Organ
Chupa’s Organ is a grenade with the ability to leech onto enemy targets and dealing damage over time, based on the enemy's health points. It also causes an explosion dealing splash damage. It comes always in non-elemental damage.
Drops from: Chupacabratch
Nagata
Nagata is also a grenade dropping from the same enemy as Chupa’s Organ. Its ability is to spawn a circle of longbow grenades that target one location. It also comes in non-elemental damage only.
Drops from: Chupacabrach
