The Call of Duty League got off to a riveting start last week. With the opening week behind us, let’s take a look at updated Call of Duty League Power Rankings.
1. Atlanta Faze
Of the top three teams prior to kickoff, Atlanta was considered the weakest of the bunch. Opening weekend told a different story. Atlanta came out guns blazing, scoring a 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Guerrillas and a 3-2 win over rivals Optic Chicago. Atlanta’s excellent Search and Destroy play was too much for Optic to handle.
2. Optic Chicago
Despite a narrow defeat to Atlanta Faze and an opening weekend record of 1-1, Optic Chicago takes the second spot in the Call of Duty League Power Rankings. Their respawn performance was incredible. Dashy proved that he belongs on this team as a vital component. Optic will look to improve on their abysmal Search and Destroy performance when they face the middle of the pack Toronto next week.
3. Dallas Empire
That was not the Dallas Empire we’ve come to know and love. Another top team posting a 1-1 record bodes well for this year’s competition. The Røkkr got the best of Dallas in a thrilling series. Last year’s MVP Shotzzy had a series to forget. On the other hand, Huke stepped up big for Dallas as he posted the top overall K/D of week 1.
4. Los Angeles Thieves
If the opening week is anything to go by, Los Angeles Thieves will be forcing their way into the top 3 Call of Duty League Power Rankings all season long. A 2-0 record and current top spot in the CDL standings was the best-case scenario for the new franchise. After two years of mediocre play, Kenny seems back to his best. The versatile player dominated throughout both matches.
5. Minnesota Røkkr
Minnesota is all about upset potential. This strong squad will look to upset the so-called top teams all season. They did exactly that on Sunday as the newly formed roster took down the Dallas Empire. Subpar hardpoint performances must be addressed if the team has any hope of breaking into the top 3.
6. Seattle Surge
After losing 3-0 to the Dallas Empire, the Seattle Surge team responded well by defeating London 3-2. Gunless made his return to the league after sitting out most of last year. He looked incredible in the team’s second series. The reliable Octane and the reborn Gunless will have their hands full next week, as they face the Thieves and the Røkkr.
7. Toronto Ultra
The Ultra only played one series during opening weekend. However, they sure did make the most of it. The underdogs shocked the heavily favored Florida Mutineers. CleanX will be one to keep an eye on as the season continues. Toronto desperately needed a win this weekend, seeing as the team must face Atlanta Faze and Optic Chicago next week.
8. Florida Mutineers
Florida Mutineers have the perfect opportunity to bounce back from a shock 3-1 defeat to Toronto Ultra. The Mutineers will face the Los Angeles Guerrillas and the Paris Legion next week. Truthfully, the series was incredibly close. The fact that Owakening posted the top Search and Destroy K/D throughout week 1 bodes well for the Mutineers.
9. New York Subliners
The Subliners were swept by the Los Angeles Thieves. Roster issues were bound to disrupt the Subliners this weekend. With Asim and Diamondcon replacing HyDra and Zooma, the team struggled to develop chemistry. Asim was the lone bright spot as he looks to make a case for a permanent roster spot.
10. London Royal Ravens
The Royal Ravens were yet another team dealing with last-minute roster introductions. Parasite made his long-awaited CDL debut in place of Zer0, who missed the opening event due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. It will be interesting to see how the roster shapes up before week 2.
11. Los Angeles Guerrillas
Although the Los Angeles Guerrillas claimed a 1-1 record this week, the team remains a weak one. The victory came against the one franchise that may be in a worse position than the Guerrillas. At the very least, Los Angeles does have a fearsome Search and Destroy mode to work with.
12. Paris Legion
Paris Legion is dead last in the Call of Duty League Power Rankings. Unfortunately, the team looked lost against the formidable Optic Chicago. A 3-0 loss in that series may have lead to a lack of confidence heading into a winnable series against the Guerrillas. Paris will likely be the CDL punching bag for the remainder of the season.
Week 2 of Stage 1 kicks off on Thursday, February 18th. With 10 games scheduled for the upcoming week, there’s tons of action you won’t want to miss!
