Kamisato Ayato is the newest 5-star character that has been released in the 2.6 Version of Genshin Impact. He has a Main DPS role that requires him to be on the field for his skill, while his Ultimate gives a large AoE Hydro application and increases ATK speed. The materials he requires are below:
The Mudra of the Malefic General is earned through defeating the weekly boss End of the Oneiric Euthymia, giving 1 or 2 each time at higher levels, while the Dew of Repudiationrequired for levelling is obtained from the Hydro Hypostasis. The Famed Handguard is used to level Ayato and his talents and is dropped by Nobushi (the small mobs in Inazuma). His talent books required are Philosophies of Elegance, which can be obtained in the Violet Court Domain. He uses Sakura Bloom as his levelling material.
This article will introduce you to the weapons and artifacts to use on Ayato, as well as the party setup you can use with him. I will include options for free-to-play players, as well as beginners.

Ayato Weapons
Ayato works best with CRIT Rate/CRIT DMG sub-stat weapons. If possible, I would recommend using a 5-star weapon (Haran Geppaku Futsu, Primordial Jade Cutter, Mistsplitter Reforged). Otherwise, you can also use the F2P weapons Blackcliff Longsword and Amenoma Kageuchi. You can use the weapons below:
The Haran Geppaku Futsu sword is the best option for Ayato, but might not be very attainable for F2P players, despite the current weapon banner wishing system. The passive of the sword grants all Elemental DMG Bonus. When other nearby party members use Elemental Skills, the character equipping this weapon will gain 1 Wavespike stack, with a maximum of 2 stacks and the effect can be triggered once every 0.3s. When the character equipping this weapon uses an Elemental Skill, all stacks of Wavespike will be consumed to increase NA DMG by 20% for 8s.
Alternatively, you can use the Primordial Jade Cutter which also has a CRIT Rate sub-stat. HP increased by 20%. Additionally, it provides an ATK Bonus based on 1.2% of the wielder's Max HP.
The Black Sword is another option that can be obtained by purchasing the Battle Pass. It has a CRIT Rate sub-stat and increases DMG dealt by NA and CA by 20%. Additionally, it regenerates 60% of ATK as HP when NA and CA score a CRIT Hit, which can occur once every 5s. For more information on the BP weapons, do refer to my guide here.
For CRIT DMG sub-stats, you can use the 5-star Mistsplitter Reforged. It grants a 12% Elemental DMG Bonus for all elements and provides an 8/16/28% Elemental DMG Bonus for the character's Elemental Type depending on the number of stacks. Stacks can be obtained by NA dealing Elemental DMG (stack lasts 5s), casting Elemental Burst (stack lasts 10s)or when energy is less than 100% (stack disappears when Energy is full).
Alternatively, you can use the F2P friendly Blackcliff Longsword. After defeating an opponent, ATK is increased by 12% for 30s. This effect has a maximum of 3 stacks, and the duration of each stack is independent of the others.
The Amenoma Kageuchi has an ATK sub-stat and can be crafted. After casting an Elemental Skill, 1 Succession Seed is gained. This effect can be triggered once every 5s and the seed lasts for 30s. Up to 3 Succession Seeds may exist simultaneously. After using an Elemental Burst, all Succession Seeds are consumed and after 2s, the character regenerates 6 Energy for each seed consumed.
Ayato Artifacts
Ayato should use a 4-set of Ocean Conqueror or a 4-set of Echoes of an Offering. The Ocean Conqueror set increases Hydro DMG Bonus by 15% and increases NA and CA DMG by 30% for 15s. Alternatively, the Echoes of an Offering set increases ATK by 18% for the 2-set. The 4-set has a 36% chance to increase NA DMG by 70% of ATK, which is dispelled 0.05s after each NA deals DMG. If an NA fails to trigger Valley Rite, the odds of triggering the buff increase by 20% by each time, which can occur once every 0.2s.
The Ocean Conqueror set can be obtained from the Peak of Vindagnyr Domain. For a guide on completing the domain, you can click here.
The Echoes of an Offering set can be obtained from the Lost Valley Domain. For a guide on completing the domain, you can click here. I prefer to use the Ocean Conqueror set instead of this since I am rather unlucky and I do not benefit much from the increased NA DMG.
The stats and sub-stats that you should prioritise are as below:
- Flower sub-stats: CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, Flat HP
- Feather sub-stats: CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, HP%
- Watch stat: ATK%
- Goblet stat: Hydro DMG Bonus
- Mask stat: CRIT DMG/Rate (depends on your weapon)
Although Ayato's ascension talent gives a buff to his Elemental Skill based on his HP, I would recommend ATK% over HP% for the Watch stat and focusing on sub-stats of HP instead.
Ayato Talents
The best order to upgrade your talents is below.
Kamisato Art: Kyouka > Kamisato Art: Suiyuu> Kamisato Art: Marobashi
You can see my upgraded talents above.
Party Setup
With Ayato as the Main DPS, you should use Cryo characters to proc Frozen reactions such as Ayaka/Ganyu for a Permafreeze composition. You can also use Support characters such as Diona/Rosaria to decrease RES and increase Elemental Mastery. For example, you can see my team setup below:
I use Ayato as Main DPS, Ayaka for Frozen reactions, Qiqi for Heals and Shenhe for buffs. If you have Venti or Sucrose, I would recommend using them for Crowd Control. You can also use Diona instead of Qiqi, but I choose Qiqi since I have C2 of her.
Conclusion
Overall, Ayato seems to be an interesting DPS character with a large AoE for his ultimate that allows for many Permafreeze team comps.
