Yanfei is the latest 4 star character to be released in the 1.5 Version and has a rather fixed role of Main DPS, due to her build's focus on charged attacks. The materials she requires are below:
The Juvenile Jade is earned through defeating the Primo Geovishap boss, giving 2 or 3 each time at higher levels. The Bloodjade Branch, however, is currently unavailable in the game. The Bloodjade Branch will be given after defeating the new weekly boss, Azhdaha. This article will introduce you to the weapons and artifacts to use on Yanfei, as well as the party setup you can use with her. I will include options for free to play players, as well as beginners.
Weapons
Yanfei works best with CRIT Rate/DMG sub-stat weapons. If possible, I would recommend using a 5 star weapon (Skyward Atlas or Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds). Otherwise, you can use the weapons below:
The Blackcliff Agate can be obtained from the Shop- Paimon's Bargains. I have written about the Royal weapons series vs the Blackcliff weapons series previously, you can read more about it here. The sub-stat is CRIT DMG while the passive gives an ATK buff of 12% after defeating an opponent, with a maximum of 3 stacks.
The Widsith has a CRIT Damage sub-stat and a passive that is tuned to more elemental reactions in the group, through buffs to Elemental Mastery, Elemental DMG and ATK.
Solar Pearl can be obtained from the Battle Pass, which you can read more about here. Apart from the optimal CRIT Rate sub-stat, normal attacks buff Elemental Skill and Burst DMG, while Elemental DMG buff normal attacks as well.
As a beginner, you could use Mappa Mare for now and save up to obtain the Royal or Blackcliff series through Paimon's Bargains if you choose to remain F2P.
Artifacts
Yanfei can use a 4-set of Crimson Witch of Flames as it increases Pyro-related reactions. Otherwise, you might prefer a 4-set Wanderer's Troupe since Yanfei should be performing more Charged attacks due to her kit.
A 4 set of Crimson Witch of Flames works best with Hydro and Cryo Support characters on your team. The 4 set benefit of increased elemental reaction damage can be reaped if you use Xingqiu, an amazing support character. With his rainswords activated and Yanfei's elemental skill activated, it allows for constant Vaporise reactions. With Kaeya or Diona, it could allow for Melt reactions too.
This set can be obtained from the Hidden Palace of Zhou Formula, you can read more about the domain here.
Alternatively, you can use a 4 set of Wanderer's Troupe if you want to have a more elemental build. This works better for charged attacks due to the 35% increase in damage. Additionally, the 2 set of Wanderer's Troupe increases Elemental Mastery, which can be incredibly useful for Yanfei's elemental attacks.
The Wanderer's Troupe set can be obtained from fighting bosses such as the Regisvines, Hypostases, Oceanid, Wolf, Childe and Stormterror or you can obtain them from completing the Spiral Abyss and Abyssal Spire.
If you just started playing Genshin Impact, you might want to use the Martial Artist set 4 piece (which can be obtained from domains such as Hidden Palace of Zhou Formula) for the increase in Normal and Charged ATK DMG in the meantime, but definitely do switch out when you reach a higher level.
The stats and sub-stats that you should prioritise are as below:
- Flower sub-stats: Crit DMG, Crit Rate and ATK
- Feather sub-stats: Crit DMG, ATK
- Watch stat: ATK%
- Goblet stat: Pyro DMG Bonus (can be any artifact set, as long as the main stat is Pyro DMG)
- Mask stat: Crit DMG or Crit Rate (depending on your weapon substat and other artifact substats)
Talents
The best order to upgrade Yanfei's talents is below:
Seal of Approval > Done Deal > Signed Edict
Upgrading her normal attack is important as it increases her Charged Attack DMG, while her Ultimate is more important than her skill since it gives "Brilliance" that increases Charged Attack DMG.
Constellations
- When Yanfei uses her Charged Attack, each existing Scarlet Seal additionally reduces the stamina cost of this Charged Attack by 10% and increases resistance against interruption during its release.
- Increases Yanfei's Charged Attack CRIT Rate by 20% against enemies below 50% HP.
- Increases level of Signed Edict by 3, maximum upgrade level is 15.
- When Done Deal is used, creates a shield that absorbs up to 45% of Yanfei's Max HP for 15s. This shield absorbs Pyro DMG 250% more efficiently.
- Increases level of Done Deal by 3, maximum upgrade level is 15.
- Increases the maximum number of Scarlet Seals by 1.
Although C4 gives a shield that scales off Max HP, I would still recommend focusing your build on ATK% as her passive talent allows Pyro DMG to scale off her ATK. All her constellations are focused on charged attacks, so ensure that you use more of her charged attacks if you have more constellations of Yanfei.
Party Setup
Since Yanfei has a Main DPS role, your other characters should complement her Pyro element. A great support character for Yanfei would be Diona as her Shield and Ultimate can proc a "Melt" reaction for Yanfei. Rosaria could also work, as she can affect enemies with Cryo for long durations. Xingqiu can also be used on your team with Yanfei. A Vaporise reaction will not do as much Pyro damage as a Melt reaction, but Xingqiu's rainswords and abilities make him a good addition without you needing to swap Yanfei out regularly. Alternatively, you can have Fischl in your team for Overloaded damage to knockback enemies.
Conclusion
Yanfei seems like a Pyro Ningguang, with her 3 Scarlet Seals that reset with each charged attack. Since all her constellations buff her Charged attacks, I would definitely recommend a Main DPS build and not swapping her out of the field after using her Ultimate to fully make use of "Brilliance".
