On April 8th, The Darkside Detective had its release on consoles. I did not know much about the game earlier, and when I was looking at the recently released games, I stumbled upon this little gem. You can learn more about this game down below.
What is The Darkside Detective?
It is a classic point-and-click adventure game, developed by independent studio Spooky Doorway and published by Akupara Games. It has a lot of mysteries, and we will need to do a lot of thinking to solve them and progress the story further.
The game contains six main missions, and it is all based on text presentation. Just be aware that you have to read a lot; however, the original soundtrack is amazing and supplements the overall experience. It also has a pixel art graphic style that fits very well to the atmosphere of the characters, city, and the story.
The game was originally released back in 2017 on PC, and then in 2018 on Nintendo Switch. I never heard about it, until it got released this year on PS5, and I am very glad I found this game.
The Story of The Game
Twin Lakes is the main place of action in the game. It seems like your typical American small city, but it is obviously not the case. Twin Lakes is a place where two dimensions intersect: our dimension and the dark dimension full of evil.
Various people and objects just vanish from the city, there is a gate to some other existential place and a lot more unsolved mysteries. However, the locals do not know about any of that. There is a special police department called Darkside Division that hides the truth from anyone else.
We play as a detective Francis McQueen from the above-mentioned Darkside Division. Our job is to protect people and investigate the weird events that are somewhat connected to the other dimension.
Together, we and our partner, officer Dooley, are responsible for preventing the escalation of weird events and protect Twin Lakes no matter what it takes.

My Thoughts on The Darkside Detective
I love some good old point-and-click adventures. I am all for the old-fashioned detective work, especially with the X-Files atmosphere. The game is pretty logical, and its graphical and audio presentations just add to the experience.
It is a great game if you just want to relax, and use your brain instead of reflexes. It is definitely worth picking up, especially because it is not an expensive game. You can buy it for 10 to 15 dollars, depending on the platform.
The Darkside Detective is out now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
