Johnny wants some good old fashion revenge against Adam Smasher and suggests that V go get Rogue in on the mission. This is the context of the Cyberpunk 2077 Chippin' In Side Job.
Cyberpunk 2077 Chippin’ In Side Job Walkthrough
Unlocking the Side Job Chippin’ In
The Side Job: Chippin’ In will only begin after beginning and completing the Side Job: Tapeworm. Tapeworm is a mission that develops Johnny Silverhand’s story through multiple conversations that begin after critical points in the main story of Cyberpunk 2077, the final conversation beginning after the proxy leaves at the end of the mission Search and Destroy.
After the conversation with Hanako’s proxy, V will collapse and wake up on the balcony of a hotel Johnny knows well, the Pistis Sophia hotel in the Pacifica district. Johnny tells V to go look in the room for something he put there a long time ago, and after a little search with the scanner, V will discover some dog tags that belonged to Johnny during his time in the military, fighting in the Central American Conflict.
Keep talking to Johnny and he’ll ask if you’re still considering Hanako’s deal. Eventually, he’ll ask if you’re really going to go through with this, that he wants to settle the score with Adam Smasher, and asks that you take Rogue with you. This begins Chippin’ In.
Meet Rogue at the Afterlife
Johnny asks that you talk to Rogue to find out where Smasher could be but says that he needs to do this personally which requires V to take Misty’s pills, giving control to Johnny. A new side job called A Cool Metal Fire begins, which is a wild night as a passenger in Johnny Silverhand’s body.
A Cool Metal Fire Guide
Johnny, controlling V, heads to the bar, and has the option of drinks. Choose a Tequila Old Fashioned, otherwise called a Johnny Silverhand at the Afterlife, and continue drinking until Johnny blacks out and awakens in a tattoo parlor.
Here, you’ll have two choices of tattoos to get, a billy-goat or “the other.” I suggest you choose “the other,” because you’ll get a sentimental tattoo immortalizing your friendship with Johnny. The tattoo will replace your hands' cyberware slot, so make sure to visit a ripperdoc soon.
Johnny will awaken again in a club, with a stranger offering the choice between a red and a blue pill (a welcomed but not-so-subtle Matrix reference). Regardless of your choice here, Johnny will end up taking both pills. Johnny will then cause a ruckus in the club and ends up punching a bouncer who knocks him out. This is where Johnny’s ride ends.
V will wake up in a hotel room, unaware of what exactly happened while Johnny had control. Rogue is sitting in a chair across from V, where you can talk about what happened and piece together what Johnny learned about someone named Grayson. Rogue decides she’s going after Grayson, which ends A Cool Metal Fire (Chippin’ In will continue from this point on).
Go with Rogue to the Ebunike
Wait a day and head to the Afterlife to meet with Rogue. She will mention that the info Johnny got while in V’s body has led them to the ship, Ebunike, to the Maelstrom docks where Grayson happens to be. This seems to be the perfect opportunity to take out both Smasher and Grayson.
Rogue will lead you outside and tell you to open the trunk because she has a surprise for you. Opening the trunk you’ll find a replica of Johnny Silverhand’s leather jacket.
V and Rogue will drive to the Maelstrom docks to search for Smasher and Grayson. Once you get to the docks, time will skip to later in the night, and Rogue will tell you to follow her through the Maelstrom controlled docks to the Ebunike.
Finding Smasher and Grayson on the Ebunike
Take out the two guards below the Ebunike with stealth, quickhacking, or firepower, and ascend the staircase to the deck of the Ebunike. Make your way to the back of the ship, and take out the group of guards protecting Grayson. Johnny will make a comment that one of those chooms is using an extremely familiar gun, which V will shrug off.
Once you’ve taken out the guards, and taken down Grayson, Johnny will appear and Rogue will talk to Grayson, and Rogue will get angry that Smasher is nowhere to be found. Johnny comments that Grayson has his signature gun, and V will take it back. After talking with Rogue and Grayson, and listening to Johnny, you’ll have the choice to either kill or spare Grayson.
If you spare Grayson he will give you an access shard to a nearby cargo container, but Rogue will be unhappy and knock him out regardless. If you choose to kill Grayson, you can loot his body for the access shard regardless, and Johnny and Rogue will be happy with your choice.
Opening the Container
Go back down the stairs to the middle of the deck and ascend a ladder to a control panel. Activate the control panel to lower a crate down to the dock. Head back down the ladder and go back down the staircase you used to get on the Ebunike. Open the cargo container and you’ll find Johnny’s Porsche. Take off the canvas cloth covering the car and get in and the Porsche will be yours permanently as an owned vehicle.
Drive to the Oil Fields
Drive out of Night City into the badlands to the oil fields where Johnny Silverhand was buried. After exiting the car, you’ll come to a trash-strewn oil field, and after scanning the scene you’ll find that Johnny’s grave is marked by a nondescript piece of sheet metal. You’ll both share a sad scene, relating with each other in how you were both discarded like trash, and V will offer a nice gesture to Johnny by carving his death date on the sheet metal.
This ends the Cyberpunk 2077 Chippin’ In Side Job, and you’ll be rewarded with 143 XP and 322 Street Cred XP. From the point in the oil fields, the Side Job: Blistering Love, begins.
