All the information about Dying Light 2 crossplay surrounding the game are unclear and there is a lot of misinformation about that topic. I will try to explain it and how the situation looks, and what is the future of crossplay in the game.
Dying Light 2 Crossplay Explained
First of all, there is no cross play at the moment in Dying Light 2. However, Techland have stated that Dying Light 2 will support crossplay between most of the platforms.
The launch of the game does not offer any form of crossplay, even between the same family of devices. Many games offer crossplay between a family of platforms, like Microsoft offers crossplay between Xbox One X/S, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Sony allows for crossplay between PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
The current plan is to introduce crossplay sometime after the release, along the way of game post-launch development. The game is clearly designed with cooperation in mind, and being able to play with friends from different platform is always a good option.
The whole campaign apart from the prologue can be completed in cooperation, every main and side quest can be finished from start to finish. Due to gameplay that is the core of Dying Light 2 it makes it a perfect cooperative experience. The best games of this genre are these that rely heavily on fun and gameplay, not the story. That means that Dying Light 2 is ideal for coop, and it is a bit sad that there is no option to play with others on the same platform at the start of the game's lifespan.
Tymon Smektala who worked on Dying Light 2 confirmed in an interview on Twitch that the game will not offer crossplay at launch, but Techland is in fact working on it, so we have that information confirmed. The only question that remains is when it will be ready.
All in all, crossplay will be available in Dying Light 2 sometime in the future. Sadly, there is no estimated release date for Dying Light 2 crossplay. All the information that we have is that Techland guaranteed five years of post-release support for the game. I am fairly certain that we can expect crossplay to be introduced to the game much sooner, and probably still this year, 2022 that is.
Dying Light 2 Stay Human was released on February 4, 2022, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One X/S, and Xbox Series X/S.
