Top lane in professional League of legends is currently experiencing a wealth of options for the players. From ranged top laners like Jayce and Kennen, Bruisers such as Volibear and Renekton even more supportive picks like Lulu and Ivern pop up from time to time. Camille is one pick that has seemed one popular choice due to her strengths in virtually all aspects. From split pushing to team fighting and even dueling she can seemingly do it all. Let's take a look at what you will need to get started on your journey to mastering the Steel shadow.
Camille's Abilities
Passive: Adaptive Defenses
Basic attacks on champions grant a shield equal to a percentage of Camille's maximum health against their damage type (Physical or Magic) for a brief duration.
Q: Precision Protocol
Camille's next basic attack deals bonus physical damage and increases her Movement Speed by for 1 second. This ability can be recast in the next 3.5 seconds at no cost.
If the second Precision Protocol attack hits at least 1.5 seconds after the first, the bonus damage is doubled and a percentage of the attack is converted into true damage.
W: Tactical Sweep
Camille winds up and then slices in a direction, dealing physical damage to enemies hit.
Enemies hit by the outer half are slowed by 80%, decaying over 2 seconds. They take extra physical damage, and Camille heals for 100% of the bonus damage dealt to champions.
E: Hookshot/Walldive
First Cast: Fire a hookshot that attaches to terrain, pulling Camille to it and allowing Hookshot to be recast for 1 second.
Second Cast: Camille leaps from the wall, colliding with the first enemy champion hit. Upon landing, she deals physical damage and a 0.75 second stun to enemy champions. Dashes towards enemy champions travel twice as far and grants Attack Speed for 5 seconds if she hits an enemy champion.
R: Hextech Ultimatum
Camille briefly becomes untargetable and leaps onto an enemy champion, locking them into an area they cannot escape by any means. Other nearby enemies are knocked away. Her basic attacks against the trapped enemy deal bonus magic damage.
The Hextech Ultimatum ends if Camille leaves the area or 1 second after Camille dies.
The skill order for Camille is dependent on the matchup. Do you want to push the wave level one? Take Q. Would you like to harass your opponent from a distance? Then take W. If your team sets up for a play at the start of the game and you need some extra crowd control then E is the way to go. For maxing abilities, it goes Q followed by E then finally W putting a point in R whenever possible.
Camille's Build
Camille's choice of mythic item is usually Trinity force as it provides a number of stats which she benefits from. These include Attack Speed, Health, Attack damage, Movement speed to name a few. All this combined with a sheen passive makes an almost untouchable force when it comes to taking down towers. In matchup against tankier opponents she may opt for a divine sunderer instead which trades the bonus attack speed from trinity force for percent health damage.
Following her mythic she tends to pick up a Ravenous Hydra which provides not only waveclear with its cleave passive but also omnivamp to ensure she can stay healthy while pushing or dueling. From here on out she has the option of getting a Steraks Gage to make herself harder to kill, Deaths dance should she be facing an AD heavy team, Guardian Angel for its revive passive or a Chempunk Chainsword to deal with opponents with immense healing.
Her boots of choice are usually either Plated steelcaps or Mercury treads.
Camille's Runes
Camille players tend to favor short trades in lanes and Grasp of the undying rewards them with bonus damage and stacking health when they do so. Shield bash and Bone plating combined with her passive tilts virtually every trade she takes in her favour. The extra health provided by Overgrowth is also appreciated as the game goes on as it could be the difference between her living or not. Magical Footwear ensures she doesn't need to delay her build by picking up boots and Biscuit delivery is a nice cushion to have in case an early trade doesn't go in her favour.
The second rune setup is occasionally run in certain ranged matchups where it may be difficult to effectively use grasp of the undying.
For the minor runes, the first adaptive force rune is occasionally swapped out for an attack speed rune instead and the resistance rune is matchup dependent.
Final Thoughts
Camille is a powerful fighter. She is best described as a jack of all trades and master of some. Truly skilled players are rewarded for their time and effort due to the sheer flexibility of her kit. If you are dedicated enough and looking for a rewarding top laner to begin your climb with Camille may just be the champion for you.
