Hades, Supergiant Games' acclaimed rogue-like, is filled with challenges for both newcomers and hardcore players, as they are put on the blazing shoes of the Prince of the Underworld, Zagreus, as he attempts to escape his father's realm and reach the surface.
Between all the enemies, which vary not only in size, but also in difficulty, the Bone Hydra, the protector of the last door of the Asphodel real, and the remains of the mythological Lernaean Hydra, after its defeat by the hands of Heracles (Hercules), is one of the most fun to beat. If you can take the heat, of course. With that in mind, we will now teach you how to beat the Bone Hydra and continue your journey to the Elysium domain.
Hades: How to Beat The Bone Hydra - A Step-by-Step Guide
#1 - Booms and Weapons
In your first fights against the boss, we advise the use of the Heart-Seeking Bow or the Eternal Spear, since both offer a great range and the ability to take a ranged approach to combat, avoiding exposure to physical damage.
For boons, Zeus boons are great for their AoE. The CRIT Increase offered by Artemis's are also great. Try to increase your damage and health as much as possible, since, in Elysium, the difficulty will spike.
For the Bone Hydra, using deflect is essential for the first time you face the boss since on its second phase you will be hit from almost all sides. For that, we recommend Athena's dash boon.
#2 - First Phase
In the first phase of the fight, Zagreus will face the main head, which can perform 3 attacks, one dash attack, one slam, which can deal high damage, and will be able to make use of projectiles that will target Zagreus in the field.
So, in its first phase, Hydra will throw 5 projectiles at once, after losing a little more than 1/4 of its total health, the projectiles will become a barrage of shots, covering a large part of the arena.
- Start the fight by an attack from a safe distance and striking when the opportunity arrives, try to keep your health at the full gauge.
After losing a little more than 60% of its Max health, the main head will become invulnerable, and 2 supporting ones will emerge from the magma. Only after defeating all the secondary heads will you be able to harm the boss again.
- To deal with the secondary heads, make use of your AoE boons, and long-range weapons for a safer approach, As we said above, having at least one boom capable of reflecting shots is also advised.
After defeating the secondary heads, deal as much damage as possible to the main one, but be careful of its now-updated projectile ability.
#3 - Second Phase
When Hydra's health is depleted to 1/3 of its original value, she will once again shield herself, but this time 6 supporting heads will emerge (yikes).
- To deal with this, make use of the Aoe boons to deal damage as efficiently as possible, as you move through the arena, and reflect the projectile shot. It's important to keep yourself on the move, avoiding the attacks and exploiting the openings as they arrive.
- If you are using the Spear, using its special will give you an edge.
It's important to point out that, after being killed three times, Hydra will then present itself in four different forms, or variants, each one with its own characteristic attacks. Which one you fight is up to lady luck, but the key method will remain the same.
